Egg in the Hole Parisian Cafe Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

Egg in the Hole Parisian Cafe Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

A delicious combination of gooey cheese, runny egg, and crispy bread!

INGREDIENTS
2 slices of good quality bread (such as sourdough or French Bread)
2 slices of Gruyere cheese
2 a good egg™ Pasteurized Shell Eggs
2 tablespoons butter, divided
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh chives or parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)

INSTRUCTIONS
Prepare the Bread:

  • Using a round cookie cutter or the rim of a glass, cut a hole in the center of each slice of bread. Save the cutouts for later.
 

Cook the egg in the hole:

  • Heat a skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. 
  • Once the butter has melted and the skillet is hot, place the bread slices in the skillet. 
  • Crack a good egg™ pasteurized egg into the center hole of each bread slice. 
  • Season the egg with a pinch of salt and pepper. 
  • Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the bottom of the bread is golden brown and the egg whites are set. 
 

Flip and add cheese:

  • Carefully flip each bread slice with the egg in the hole. 
  • Top each slice with a slice go Gruyere cheese. 
  • Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the egg is cooked to your desired doneness. You can cover the skillet with a lid to help the cheese melt. 
 

Assemble the Sandwich:

  • Remove the bread slices from the skillet and place one slice, egg-side up, on a plate. 
  • Place the other slice, egg-side down, on top of he first slice to form a sandwich. 
  • Optional, sprinkle with freshly chopped chives or parsley for garnish. 
 

Serve:

  • Serve the Egg in the Hole Parisian cafe Grilled Cheese Sandwich immediately while hot and enjoy the delicious combination of gooey cheese, runny egg, and crispy bread!
